Famous quotes containing the words early, life, youth and/or career:
“... business training in early life should not be regarded solely as insurance against destitution in the case of an emergency. For from business experience women can gain, too, knowledge of the world and of human beings, which should be of immeasurable value to their marriage careers. Self-discipline, co-operation, adaptability, efficiency, economic management,if she learns these in her business life she is liable for many less heartbreaks and disappointments in her married life.”
—Hortense Odlum (1892?)
“I perceive that we inhabitants of New England live this mean life that we do because our vision does not penetrate the surface of things. We think that that is which appears to be.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Mans own youth is the worlds youth; at least he feels as if it were, and imagines that the earths granite substance is something not yet hardened, and which he can mould into whatever shape he likes.”
—Nathaniel Hawthorne (18041864)
“Clearly, society has a tremendous stake in insisting on a womans natural fitness for the career of mother: the alternatives are all too expensive.”
—Ann Oakley (b. 1944)
