Playing Career

Ranger played his junior career with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. After being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning 183rd overall in 2002, he played 2 more seasons with the Generals before signing with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL for the 2004-05 NHL Lockout. After the lockout, he played 76 games with the Lightning, scoring 18 points.

As of October 2009, Ranger was granted personal leave from the Lightning. He declined any interviews, and in July 2010 told GM Steve Yzerman that he wasn't "prepared to make a decision one way or another" regarding his future with the team.

In March of 2012 the Tampa Bay Times reported that Paul Ranger was coaching his hometown's bantam team in Whitby, Ontario. By some accounts, Ranger had retired from professional hockey.

On August 21, 2012, after almost three seasons removed from competitive hockey, Ranger signed a minor league deal with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

Famous quotes containing the words playing and/or career:

The traditional American husband and father had the responsibilities—and the privileges—of playing the role of primary provider. Sharing that role is not easy. To yield exclusive access to the role is to surrender some of the potential for fulfilling the hero fantasy—a fantasy that appeals to us all. The loss is far from trivial.
    Faye J. Crosby (20th century)

He was at a starting point which makes many a man’s career a fine subject for betting, if there were any gentlemen given to that amusement who could appreciate the complicated probabilities of an arduous purpose, with all the possible thwartings and furtherings of circumstance, all the niceties of inward balance, by which a man swings and makes his point or else is carried headlong.
