The First Armored Car Robbery

He was the leader of the "Flatheads" gang, who committed the first-ever armored car robbery, on March 11, 1927. The gang stole over $104,000 from an armored vehicle on Bethel Road, Bethel Park, 7 miles outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Famous quotes containing the words the first, armored and/or car:

    We might all place ourselves in one of two ranks—the women who do something, and the women who do nothing; the first being of course the only creditable place to occupy.
    Lucy Larcom (1824–1893)

    The origin of storms is not in clouds,
    our lightning strikes when the earth rises,
    spillways free authentic power:
    dead John Brown’s body walking from a tunnel
    to break the armored and concluded mind.
    Muriel Rukeyser (1913–1980)

    Did ye not hear it?—No; ‘twas but the wind,
    Or the car rattling o’er the stony street;
    On with the dance! let joy be unconfined;
    No sleep till morn, when Youth and Pleasure meet
    To chase the glowing Hours with flying feet.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
