Writing
Foot was an expert on the poet Shelley, and wrote a pioneering book (Red Shelley) which exalted the radical politics of Shelley's poetry. He was a bibliophile, following in the steps of his grandfather Isaac and uncle Michael. He also wrote books about the radical union leader A J Cook and a detailed study of parliamentary democracy in Britain, published posthumously, entitled The Vote.

Famous quotes containing the word writing:
“I am writing for myself and strangers. This is the only
way that I can do it. Everybody is a real one to me,
everybody is like some one else too to me. No one of
them that I know can want to know it and so I write
for myself and strangers.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“One could see that what you are writing was that todays meeting with President Bill Clinton was going to be a disaster. Now for the first time, I can tell you that youre a disaster.”
—Boris Yeltsin (b.1931)
