Pattukkottai is well-connected by road and rail with the rest of Tamil Nadu. There are regular buses to Chennai, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi, Pudukkottai, Aranthangi, Tiruvannamalai and Karaikudi. Pattukkottai forms a part of the division no. 1 of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation which is headquartered at Kumbakonam. The town has one bus depot for inter-city bus services. Pattukkottai comes under Tiruchirappalli division of the Southern Railway. There have been plans to extend the Mannargudi-Needamangalam broad gauge line to Pattukkottai. The nearest Seaport is located at Karaikal.
