Personal Life
Maldonado is an outspoken political figure, which is rare in the racing world. He considers himself a socialist and was a friend of late Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. He was one of the guards of honour at Chávez's funeral.
Maldonado married Venezuelan journalist Gabriela Tarkanyi on 15 December 2012, in Canaima, Venezuela.
