Partnership For The Delaware Estuary - Grants & Activities

Grants & Activities

The PDE has been awarded a number of grants to undertake various programs and projects that protect and preserve the estuary, often in partnership with other organizations. For example, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the PDE a $1.15 million Targeted Watershed Initiative Grant in 2004 for water-quality improvement projects identified by the Philadelphia Water Department to protect the Schuylkill River Watershed, a major source of drinking water for the city of Philadelphia. In 2008, the PDE received a $50,000 grant from the EPA to carry out a two-year study on the effects climate change could have on the estuary. And in 2013, the PDE hosted its fifth biennial Delaware Estuary Science & Environmental Summit, an event that attracted almost 280 scientists, resource managers, and environmentalists while focusing on "Weathering Change: Shifting Environments, Shifting Policies, Shifting Needs."

Famous quotes containing the words grants and/or activities:

... liberty is the one thing no man can have unless he grants it to others.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)

Both at-home and working mothers can overmeet their mothering responsibilities. In order to justify their jobs, working mothers can overnurture, overconnect with, and overschedule their children into activities and classes. Similarly, some at-home mothers,... can make at- home mothering into a bigger deal than it is, over stimulating, overeducating, and overwhelming their children with purposeful attention.
    Jean Marzollo (20th century)
