Speech/Debate
The Parish debate program is surprisingly new but has had success beyond its years. The team began competing in 2009 and by 2010 was competing in National Forensics League events by 2010. In 2013, Cyrus Ghaznavi set a record for winning by the largest margin at the 4th Annual Capital City Extemporaneous Speaking Round Robin. At the 2013 TFA State competition, Ghaznavi and Sahil Vanjani took first place in Public Forum debate. Ghazhavi also took first in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. Parish took 7th place in overall sweepstakes, an impressive finish considering only five students competed.

Famous quotes containing the words speech and/or debate:
“Funest philosophers and ponderers,
Their evocations are the speech of clouds.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“A great deal of unnecessary worry is indulged in by theatregoers trying to understand what Bernard Shaw means. They are not satisfied to listen to a pleasantly written scene in which three or four clever people say clever things, but they need to purse their lips and scowl a little and debate as to whether Shaw meant the lines to be an attack on monogamy as an institution or a plea for manual training in the public school system.”
—Robert Benchley (18891945)
