Parade of Homes

The Parade of Homes is a showcase of new homes held annually in several regions throughout the United States. The Salt Lake Home Builders Association started this nationwide tradition back in 1946 with 66 consecutive Parades since then. In 2011, they hosted the infamous "UP" House from the Disney/Pixar Movie. Alternatively known as the Tour of Homes in some locales, it is often presented by the local Home Builders Association (HBA) or Building Industry Association (BIA). The Parade of Homes typically showcases high-end designer homes, both new construction and remodeled homes. Showcases can include single-family homes, condominiums, duplexes, and town homes. Some locations allow tours for free; other locations require an admission ticket to view the homes. Some locations offer awards for the best homes.

Famous quotes containing the words parade of, parade and/or homes:

With the greater part of rich people, the chief enjoyment of riches consists in the parade of riches, which in their eyes is never so complete as when they appear to possess those decisive marks of opulence which nobody can possess but themselves.
    Adam Smith (1723–1790)

We are becoming like cats, slyly parasitic, enjoying an indifferent domesticity. Nice and snug in “the social” our historic passions have withdrawn into the glow of an artificial cosiness, and our half-closed eyes now seek little other than the peaceful parade of television pictures.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

I had the idea that there were two worlds. There was a real world as I called it, a world of wars and boxing clubs and children’s homes on back streets, and this real world was a world where orphans burned orphans.... I liked the other world in which almost everyone lived. The imaginary world.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
