Signal Box
The signal box is located at the southern end of Platform 2 and opened in 1879. When it was first built it was less than half its current length. The original box only contained 26 levers, but the frame was replaced in 1913 when 57 more levers were added. A panel has since been added to control the section through to St Austell and Burngullow as far west as the now closed Probus and Ladock railway station.
Signals controlled from Par carry the identification code 'PR'.

Famous quotes containing the words signal and/or box:
“Perhaps having built a barricade when youre sixteen provides you with a sort of safety rail. If youve once taken part in building one, even inadvertently, doesnt its usually latent image reappear like a warning signal whenever youre tempted to join the police, or support any manifestation of Law and Order?”
—Jean Genet (19101986)
“I hate love. Hate being in love. I never want it to happen to me again.”
—Muriel Box (b. 1905)
