Paper and Ink Testing - Grammage Test

Grammage Test

The mass per area of the paper is measured as gsm (grams per square meter). Paper sheets are cut to a size of 10 cm x 10 cm, then the sheets are massed individually. The mean of the masses is used to calculate the mass of the paper per square meter, and the standard deviation is determined from all samples. If the mass is higher than specified, it is a loss for the publisher.

Famous quotes containing the word test:

Utopias are presented for our inspection as a critique of the human state. If they are to be treated as anything but trivial exercises of the imagination. I suggest there is a simple test we can apply.... We must forget the whole paraphernalia of social description, demonstration, expostulation, approbation, condemnation. We have to say to ourselves, “How would I myself live in this proposed society? How long would it be before I went stark staring mad?”
    William Golding (b. 1911)
