Palomar Medical Center

Palomar Medical Center (PMC) is a two-campus hospital located in Escondido, California. It is operated by the Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) District, which also operates Pomerado Hospital in nearby Poway. PMC is the only designated trauma center in northern San Diego County.

PMC opened in 1950 as Palomar Memorial Hospital. A tower addition, McLeod Tower, was completed in 1974. The hospital was renamed to Palomar Medical Center in 1987.

In 2012, the main emergency- and acute-care facilities for Palomar Medical Center were moved from the downtown campus to a new 653-bed hospital located in the Escondido Research and Technology Center. The original campus for Palomar Medical Center (now called PMC Downtown) now houses the center's urgent-care, maternity, pediatric, psychiatric and rehabilitation wards.

Famous quotes containing the words medical and/or center:

Often, we expect too much [from a nanny]. We want someone like ourselves—bright, witty, responsible, loving, imaginative, patient, well-mannered, and cheerful. Also, we want her to be smart, but not so smart that she’s going to get bored in two months and leave us to go to medical school.
    Louise Lague (20th century)

Death is someone you see very clearly with eyes in the center of your heart: eyes that see not by reacting to light, but by reacting to a kind of a chill from within the marrow of your own life.
    Thomas Merton (1915–1968)
