Packet Crafting - Packet Play

Packet Play

Packet Play or Packet Replay is the act of sending a pre-generated or captured series of packets. Packets may come from Packet Assembly and Editing or from caputed network attacks. This allows for testing of a given usage or attack scenario for the targeted network. Tcpreplay is the most common program for this task since it is capable of taking a stored packet stream in the pcap format and sending those packets at the original rate or a user-defined rate. Ostinato added support for pcap files in version 0.4. Some packet analyzers are also capable of packet replay.

Famous quotes containing the words packet and/or play:

    The captain was a duck
With a packet on his back,
And when the ship began to move
    The captain said, Quack! Quack!
    Mother Goose (fl. 17th–18th century. I saw a ship a-sailing (l. 13–16)

A bestial and violent man will go so far as to kill because he is under the influence of drink, exasperated, or driven by rage and alcohol. He is paltry. He does not know the pleasure of killing, the charity of bestowing death like a caress, of linking it with the play of the noble wild beasts: every cat, every tiger, embraces its prey and licks it even while it destroys it.
    Colette [Sidonie Gabrielle Colette] (1873–1954)
