P-adic L-function - Totally Real Fields

Totally Real Fields

Deligne & Ribet (1980), building upon previous work of Serre (1973), constructed analytic p-adic L-functions for totally real fields. Independently, Barsky (1978) and Cassou-Noguès (1979) did the same, but their approaches followed Takuro Shintani's approach to the study of the L-values.

Famous quotes containing the words totally, real and/or fields:

However great a man’s fear of life, suicide remains the courageous act, the clear-headed act of a mathematician. The suicide has judged by the laws of chance—so many odds against one that to live will be more miserable than to die. His sense of mathematics is greater than his sense of survival. But think how a sense of survival must clamour to be heard at the last moment, what excuses it must present of a totally unscientific nature.
    Graham Greene (1904–1991)

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.
    —W.C. Fields (1879–1946)
