Owen Da Gama

Owen Da Gama (born 18 August 1961 in Volksrust, Transvaal) is a former South African footballer, and current manager.

He is also known for having coached Orlando Pirates and has previously managed Platinum Stars, who were previously known as Silver Stars, from 2000 until 2007.

During his playing career he spent time with Derry City of the League of Ireland and Moroka Swallows. He also played in Belgium for Beerschot .

When Derry won their first trophy in the League of Ireland he scored a hat-trick in the final.

Infamous for his 'bum-wiping' goal celebration, he has brought it with him into management and recently got himself into a spot of bother with rival team, Kaizer Chiefs, after performing the ritual after his team scored a fourth goal against them. Da Gama has also scooped the coveted 2005/06 "Coach of the Season" Award at the annual PSL End-of-Season Awards Function.

He guided Silver Stars to victory in the inaugural Telkom Knockout Cup in South Africa. The Lions of the North defeated Ajax Cape Town 3–1 at the Atteridgeville Super Stadium in Pretoria with Simba Marumo scoring a first-half hat-trick for Da Gama's team. In September 2007, he took over the head coach of Orlando Pirates.

In August 2010, Da Gama made a return to Platinum Stars as head coach.
