Effects Upon Animals
Unwanted dogs and cats may have been acquired from any source. When dogs or cats are an impulse purchase, they often end up in a shelter because the owner did not consider, or understand the amount of time and money full-time pet care takes. Large numbers of animals are placed in shelters by pet owners each year for reasons such as moving, allergies, behavioral problems, and lack of time or money. Another common reason for surrendering a pet is because of milestones, like marriage or the birth of a new baby.

Famous quotes containing the words effects and/or animals:
“The best road to correct reasoning is by physical science; the way to trace effects to causes is through physical science; the only corrective, therefore, of superstition is physical science.”
—Frances Wright (17951852)
“We know what the animals do, what are the needs of the beaver, the bear, the salmon, and other creatures, because long ago men married them and acquired this knowledge from their animal wives. Today the priests say we lie, but we know better.”
—native American belief, quoted by D. Jenness in The Carrier Indians of the Bulkley River, Bulletin no. 133, Bureau of American Ethnology (1943)
