Order of Saint Benedict (Orthodox) - Communities

Communities

There are currently at least five Benedictine monastic houses within the Orthodox Church. There are two stavropegial Benedictine monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, namely the Dormition of Our Lady of Mount Royal, whose abbot is Dom David (Pierce), and the Christ the Saviour Monastery (or Christminster), whose abbot is Dom Janes (Deschesne). In addition, an oblate programme exists at Saint Benedict Russian Orthodox Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

There is also the Abbey of the Holy Name with its daughter house of St John the Theologian, which is under the Autonomous Orthodox Metropolia of North and South America and the British Isles.

Within the United States of America, the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, while having no monastic houses, does have a number of parishes that run an oblate programme.

Famous quotes containing the word communities:

The horror of class stratification, racism, and prejudice is that some people begin to believe that the security of their families and communities depends on the oppression of others, that for some to have good lives there must be others whose lives are truncated and brutal.
    Dorothy Allison (b. 1949)

... feminist solidarity rooted in a commitment to progressive politics must include a space for rigorous critique, for dissent, or we are doomed to reproduce in progressive communities the very forms of domination we seek to oppose.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)

Culture is the name for what people are interested in, their thoughts, their models, the books they read and the speeches they hear, their table-talk, gossip, controversies, historical sense and scientific training, the values they appreciate, the quality of life they admire. All communities have a culture. It is the climate of their civilization.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)
