Orange Line (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)

The Orange Line (labeled as the Purple Line on maps prior to 2006) is a 14-mile (23 km) mass transit light rail line operated by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system in Dallas, Irving, Richardson and Plano, Texas. The Orange Line started operation on December 6, 2010, with weekday peak service from the Parker Road Station to Bachman Station on stations shared with the Red and Green lines. The three first Orange-only stations opened with the extension to Irving Convention Center Station on July 30, 2012, and two more were added on Dec. 3, 2012. The current northwestern terminus is Belt Line Station, with service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport planned for December 2014.

Other future Orange Line stations include a DFW North Station loop and an eastern extension down Scyene Road to Masters Drive (previously planned as a Green Line expansion).

Famous quotes containing the words orange, line, area and/or rapid:

I’d take the bus downtown with my mother, and the big thing was to sit at the counter and get an orange drink and a tuna sandwich on toast. I thought I was living large!... When I was at the Ritz with the publisher a few months ago, I did think, “Oh my God, I’m in the Ritz tearoom.” ... The person who was so happy to sit at the Woolworths counter is now sitting at the Ritz, listening to the harp, and wondering what tea to order.... [ellipsis in source] Am I awake?
    Connie Porter (b. 1959)

I had crossed de line of which I had so long been dreaming. I was free; but dere was no one to welcome me to de land of freedom. I was a stranger in a strange land, and my home after all was down in de old cabin quarter, wid de ole folks, and my brudders and sisters. But to dis solemn resolution I came; I was free, and dey should be free also; I would make a home for dem in de North, and de Lord helping me, I would bring dem all dere.
    Harriet Tubman (c. 1820–1913)

During the Civil War the area became a refuge for service- dodging Texans, and gangs of bushwhackers, as they were called, hid in its fastnesses. Conscript details of the Confederate Army hunted the fugitives and occasional skirmishes resulted.
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

It now appears that the negro race is, more than any other, susceptible of rapid civilization. The emancipation is observed, in the islands, to have wrought for the negro a benefit as sudden as when a thermometer is brought out of the shade into the sun. It has given him eyes and ears.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
