Operation Eagle Eye (Kosovo)

Operation Eagle Eye (Kosovo)

Operation Eagle Eye was part of the Kosovo Verification Mission, which followed 1999 Kosovo War; the aim was to monitor the federal Yugoslav government's compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1199, and in particular the withdrawal of armed forces from Kosovo and compliance with the ceasefire.

Operation Eagle was the name of the aerial component of this monitoring, which began October 17th, 1998. Operation Eagle Eye worked in concert with these 1400 ground observers in Kosovo. As a result of a Yugoslav troop activities and other forms of non-compliance, the ground observers were withdrawn due to "an unacceptable level of risk to the peace support verification mission", resulting in an end to aerial verification on March 24, 1999.

Famous quotes containing the words operation, eagle and/or eye:

It requires a surgical operation to get a joke well into a Scotch understanding. The only idea of wit, or rather that inferior variety of the electric talent which prevails occasionally in the North, and which, under the name of “Wut,” is so infinitely distressing to people of good taste, is laughing immoderately at stated intervals.
    Sydney Smith (1771–1845)

    Being wakeful for her sake,
    Remembering what she had,
    What eagle look still shows,
While up from my heart’s root
    So great a sweetness flows
I shake from head to foot.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

Herein Fortune shows herself more kind
Than is her custom. It is still her use
To let the wretched man outlive his wealth,
To view with hollow eye and wrinkled brow
An age of poverty; from which lingering penance
Of such misery doth she cut me off.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
