Opera Theatre of Saint Louis

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) is a summer opera festival held in St. Louis, Missouri. Typically four operas, all sung in English, are presented each season, which runs from late May to late June. Performances are accompanied by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, which is divided into two ensembles, each covering two of the operas, for the season. The company's performances are presented in the Loretto-Hilton Center on the campus of Webster University. In 2005, OTSL adopted projected English-language supertitles in the theatre.

Famous quotes containing the words opera, theatre, saint and/or louis:

The real exertion in the case of an opera singer lies not so much in her singing as in her acting of a role, for nearly every modern opera makes great dramatic and physical demands.
    Maria Jeritza (1887–1982)

... the theatre demanded of its members stamina, good digestion, the ability to adjust, and a strong sense of humor. There was no discomfort an actor didn’t learn to endure. To survive, we had to be horses and we were.
    Helen Hayes (1900–1993)

And Satan trembles when he sees
The weakest saint upon his knees.
    William Cowper (1731–1800)

You ask: What is it that philosophers have called qualitative states? I answer, only half in jest: As Louis Armstrong is said to have said when asked what jazz is, ‘If you got to ask, you ain’t never gonna get to know.’
    Ned Block (b. 1942)
