One Pulse

OnePulse is the name of a credit card that is issued by Barclaycard that combines the functionality of Transport for London's Oyster card with a Visa contactless enabled credit card. Barclaycard OnePulse was launched in early September 2007.

In addition to the normal features of both a Visa credit card and the Oyster product, Barclaycard OnePulse includes the ability to pay for low value items under £15 using the Visa contactless system by waving the card over a reader in participating shops anywhere Visa contactless cards are accepted. Purchases made in shops using either the contactless or standard payment methods are debited directly from the Barclaycard account as opposed to being deducted from the Oyster Pre-Pay account. No PIN is required for contactless transactions, providing a similar customer experience to Oyster. The chip in the card contains risk management logic that will prompt the cardholder to revert to a normal (contact) chip and PIN transaction from time to time for security. The standard consumer protections associated with credit cards apply to contactless transactions, so the consumer is protected in the event of unauthorised use of their card.

Shops participating with contactless payment scheme currently include:

  • EAT.
  • Krispy Kreme
  • YO! Sushi
  • Coffee Republic
  • Tossed
  • Caffè Nero
  • Subway
  • Boots
  • McDonald's

In addition, many traditional retailers (e.g. corner shop operators) now accept the cashless element of OnePulse and other contactless payment methods. Barclaycard merchant services are now routinely providing contactless payment terminals to smaller merchants, following the increased roll-out of contactless payment cards by Barclaycard and Barclays Bank.

As of September 2012, the card is not available to new customers. The official website redirects to a page for existing customers only.

Famous quotes containing the word pulse:

I know you not, this room never,
    the swollen dress I wear,
nor the anonymous spoons that free me,
nor this calendar nor the pulse we pare and cover.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
