Famous quotes containing the words ship, street, historic and/or district:

Small pity for him!—He sailed away
From a leaking ship in Chaleur Bay,—
    John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–1892)

And men left down their work and came,
And women with petticoats coloured like flame.
And little bare feet that were blue with cold,
Went dancing back to the age of gold,
And all the world went gay, went gay,
For half an hour in the street to-day.

The first farmer was the first man, and all historic nobility rests on possession and use of land.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Most works of art, like most wines, ought to be consumed in the district of their fabrication.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)
