- Oenomaus is portrayed by Peter Mensah in the Starz television series Spartacus. At first, he is known simply by the title of "Doctore" (which means 'teacher') and is the trainer of gladiators for Batiatus' ludus. In the series, the character is re-imagined as an African, rather than a Gaul, and dies in the battle at Vesuvius.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:
“The poet will prevail to be popular in spite of his faults, and in spite of his beauties too. He will hit the nail on the head, and we shall not know the shape of his hammer. He makes us free of his hearth and heart, which is greater than to offer one the freedom of a city.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Our culture is ill-equipped to assert the bourgeois values which would be the salvation of the under-class, because we have lost those values ourselves.”
—Norman Podhoretz (b. 1930)
