Numerical Mathematics Consortium

The Numerical Mathematics Consortium (NMC) is a group of vendors and technical professionals working to standardize a set of core numerical mathematics. The Numerical Mathematics Consortium is committed to numerical algorithm development through open mathematical semantics standardization. The group focuses on core mathematical definitions, algorithm interchangeability, and function semantics. It does not focus on standardizing syntax for a particular mathematical language.

Famous quotes containing the words numerical and/or mathematics:

The terrible tabulation of the French statists brings every piece of whim and humor to be reducible also to exact numerical ratios. If one man in twenty thousand, or in thirty thousand, eats shoes, or marries his grandmother, then, in every twenty thousand, or thirty thousand, is found one man who eats shoes, or marries his grandmother.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Mathematics alone make us feel the limits of our intelligence. For we can always suppose in the case of an experiment that it is inexplicable because we don’t happen to have all the data. In mathematics we have all the data ... and yet we don’t understand. We always come back to the contemplation of our human wretchedness. What force is in relation to our will, the impenetrable opacity of mathematics is in relation to our intelligence.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)
