Numbers in The Year Zero Alternate Reality Game

Numbers In The Year Zero Alternate Reality Game

This is a comprehensive list of the numbers of the Year Zero alternate reality game by Nine Inch Nails and 42 Entertainment. The Year Zero alternate reality game, and its accompanying concept album of the same name, criticizes the United States government's policies as of 2007, projecting a dystopian vision of its impact on the state of events in 2022. The game has been underway since roughly February 12, 2007 and is expected to continue for approximately eighteen months.

Every medium released within the game has had a series of numbers hidden within it in the format of "24.x.y." The numbers appeared to be a form cataloging the media, much like the "Halo" system of all official Nine Inch Nails releases, partly confirmed by the fact that the Year Zero album was given the halo number of 24. Upon the discovery of Exhibit Twenty Four, it was revealed that the numbers were an in-game form of cataloging an ongoing government surveillance and criminal investigation of "resistance" groups, specifically a single unnamed " inmate." Below is a list of the numbers discovered and their source.

Famous quotes containing the words numbers, year, alternate, reality and/or game:

    What culture lacks is the taste for anonymous, innumerable germination. Culture is smitten with counting and measuring; it feels out of place and uncomfortable with the innumerable; its efforts tend, on the contrary, to limit the numbers in all domains; it tries to count on its fingers.
    Jean Dubuffet (1901–1985)

    If all the year were playing holidays,
    To sport would be as tedious as to work;
    But when they seldom come, they wished for come,
    And nothing pleaseth but rare accidents.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    I alternate treading water
    and deadman’s float.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    Electronic aids, particularly domestic computers, will help the inner migration, the opting out of reality. Reality is no longer going to be the stuff out there, but the stuff inside your head. It’s going to be commercial and nasty at the same time.
    —J.G. (James Graham)

    He may travel who can subsist on the wild fruits and game of the most cultivated country.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
