Nudity in Film - Gender Mix

Gender Mix

From the earliest days of film-making, most nudity in film has been female. Many actresses have appeared on screen in some level of nudity. However, in recent years males have also been represented. For example, actors who have appeared nude have included Richard Gere (American Gigolo, 1980), Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator, 1984), William Petersen (To Live and Die in L.A., 1985), Harvey Keitel (Bad Lieutenant, 1992, and The Piano, 1993), Sylvester Stallone (Demolition Man, 1993), Bruce Willis (Color of Night, 1994), Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, 1996), Edward Norton (American History X, 1998), Kevin Bacon (Wild Things, 1998), Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, 1999), Geoffrey Rush (Quills, 2000), Christian Bale (American Psycho, 2000), Ralph Fiennes (Red Dragon, 2002), Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, 2007), Willem Dafoe (Antichrist, 2009), Billy Crudup (Watchmen, 2009), among others.

Famous quotes containing the words gender and/or mix:

Most women of [the WW II] generation have but one image of good motherhood—the one their mothers embodied. . . . Anything done “for the sake of the children” justified, even ennobled the mother’s role. Motherhood was tantamount to martyrdom during that unique era when children were gods. Those who appeared to put their own needs first were castigated and shunned—the ultimate damnation for a gender trained to be wholly dependent on the acceptance and praise of others.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)

This wine is too good for toast-drinking, my dear. You don’t want to mix emotions up with a wine like that. You lose the taste.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)
