Now That's What I Call Music 4 (UK Series)

Now That's What I Call Music 4 or Now 4 was released in 1984. The album is the fourth edition of the (UK) Now! series. It is the only album in the series which didn't reach number one on the UK Albums Chart, kept off the top by the newly premiering Hits album series.

Although Now 4 was the first in the series to be released on Compact Disc, this was only a single-CD release containing 15 tracks (compared to 32 on the standard double LP and cassette). In addition, it included tracks from the regular Now 4, Now 3 and Now 2 releases, the latter two having been released earlier in 1984. (The Now 4 cassette makes reference to "The Best of Now 1984 Compact Disc" as being "Also Available", but does not confirm whether this is the same CD that was released as Now 4 under an earlier title).

It would be a further two years later before another regularly numbered Now album was released on CD, with a single-disc issue of Now 8, although Now - The Christmas Compact Disc and Now That's What I Call Music '86 were also made available on the format. The CD format became regular from 1987 with a double-disc issue of Now 10 being the first major release.

Now 4 features one song which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, "Hello". It is also the only album in the Now! series on which Michael Jackson features.

Famous quotes containing the words call and/or music:

This grandiose tragedy that we call modern art.
    Salvador Dali (1904–1989)

The sound of tireless voices is the price we pay for the right to hear the music of our own opinions. But there is also, it seems to me, a moment at which democracy must prove its capacity to act. Every man has a right to be heard; but no man has the right to strangle democracy with a single set of vocal chords.
    Adlai Stevenson (1900–1965)
