Nosferatu (word)

The name Nosferatu has been presented as possibly an archaic Romanian word, synonymous with "vampire". However, it was largely popularized in the late nineteenth century by Western fiction such as Dracula. A probable etymology of the term might be derived from the Romanian "Necuratu" (unclean spirit, spiritus immundus) a term typically used to designate Satan (the Devil) in Romanian.
