Acts of Parliament

In 1836 Parliament considered various proposals for new railways and on 4 July an Act approved the Northern and Eastern line, but only the 53-mile route as far as Cambridge, with a share capital of £1,200,000. An Act of 1839/40 abandoned the section north of Bishop's Stortford and introduced a deviation from Tottenham to Stratford.
