Northeast Philadelphia - Political Representation and Government

Political Representation and Government

Unlike the rest of Philadelphia (a solidly Democratic city) there is consistent competition between Republicans and Democrats in some parts of the Northeast. Republicans currently hold one of the State House seats in the Northeast and one non at-large Philadelphia City Council seat. As of 2011, no Republican represents any part of the Northeast in the United States Congress, with the exception of the small portion within the 8th district.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or government:

Every community is an association of some kind and every community is established with a view to some good; for everyone always acts in order to obtain that which they think good. But, if all communities aim at some good, the state or political community, which is the highest of all, and which embraces all the rest, aims at good in a greater degree than any other, and at the highest good.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

The root of the problem is not so much that our people have lost confidence in government, but that government has demonstrated time and again its lack of confidence in the people.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
