Chandos Outdoor Education Centre

Chandos Outdoor Education Centre is a camp property owned and operated by North Toronto Christian School. Twice a year, students from grades 3 - 9 take an overnight trip there. Each class, accompanied by teachers and parents, goes once in the fall and once in the winter. These trips provide students with opportunities to explore nature, learn new skills, and develop closer relationships with their peers. Chandos Outdoor Education Centre is located outside of Apsley, Ontario, and is about a two hour bus drive from the school. The 275-acre property contains open fields, wetlands, thick forests, hiking trails, and a beach on Lake Chandos--a variety of unique environments from which to study God's creation. Chandos trips focus on allowing students to enjoy the outdoors in the company of their classmates. Swimming, canoeing, hiking, sledding, and snowshoeing are some of the activities that students participate in during the trips.

Famous quotes containing the words outdoor, education and/or centre:

Close to the academy in this town they have erected a sort of gallows for the pupils to practice on. I thought that they might as well hang at once all who need to go through such exercises in so new a country, where there is nothing to hinder their living an outdoor life. Better omit Blair, and take the air.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

As long as learning is connected with earning, as long as certain jobs can only be reached through exams, so long must we take this examination system seriously. If another ladder to employment was contrived, much so-called education would disappear, and no one would be a penny the stupider.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)

Marriage and deathless friendship, both should be inviolable and sacred: two great creative passions, separate, apart, but complementary: the one pivotal, the other adventurous: the one, marriage, the centre of human life; and the other, the leap ahead.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
