The North European Plain' (German: Norddeutsches Tiefland or German: Norddeutsche Tiefebene, or Central European Plain Polish: Nizina Úrodkowoeuropejska, i.e. Central European Plain) is a geomorphological region in Europe. Famous quotes containing the words north, european and/or plain:

The pure products of America go crazy—mountain folk from Kentucky or the ribbed north end of Jersey with its isolate lakes and valleys, its deaf-mutes, thieves.
    William Carlos Williams (1883–1963)

The Indian is one of Nature’s gentlemen—he never says or does a rude or vulgar thing. The vicious, uneducated barbarians, who form the surplus of overpopulous European countries, are far behind the wild man in delicacy of feeling or natural courtesy.
    Susanna Moodie (1803–1885)

This was the merriest old man that we had ever seen, and one of the best preserved. His style of conversation was coarse and plain enough to have suited Rabelais. He would have made a good Panurge. Or rather he was a sober Silenus, and we were the boys Chromis and Mnasilus, who listened to his story.... There was a strange mingling of past and present in his conversation, for he had lived under King George, and might have remembered when Napoleon and the moderns generally were born.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
