Future
The Goldsboro Bypass is a 20.6-mile (33.2 km) proposed bypass north of the city of Goldsboro. Upon completion of the bypass, US 70 will replace NC 44. The estimated cost for entire project is $234 million; it is broken into four sections:
- West of NC 581 to I-795, construction scheduled to begin in June 2012.
- I-795 to Wayne Memorial Drive (SR 1556), opened as of December 16, 2011.
- Wayne Memorial Drive (SR 1556) to Creek Road (SR 1714), construction started in November 2011.
- Creek Road (SR 1714) to east of Promise Land Road (SR 1323), construction started in November 2011.
