Conviction For Indecent Assault

In 1998, Elder pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting 10 teenage boys between 1970 and 1980. On March 12, 1998, Judge Faith Finnestad sentenced Elder to two years less a day in jail.

The boys were all between the ages of 18 and 20 at the time of the encounters but Canada's laws at the time gave 21 as the age of consent for homosexuals.

Famous quotes containing the words conviction, indecent and/or assault:

What is a novel if not a conviction of our fellow-men’s existence strong enough to take upon itself a form of imagined life clearer than reality and whose accumulated verisimilitude of selected episodes puts to shame the pride of documentary history?
    Joseph Conrad (1857–1924)

Such writing is a sort of mental masturbation.... I don’t mean that he is indecent but viciously soliciting his own ideas into a state which is neither poetry nor anything else but a Bedlam vision produced by raw pork and opium.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

[Humanity] has unquestionably one really effective weapon—laughter. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution—these can lift at a colossal humbug—push it a little—weaken it a little, century by century; but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
