NORD.LINK is a proposed subsea HVDC power cable between Norway and Germany. The feasibility study was completed at the end of 2008. If constructed, the capacity of NORD.LINK is expected to be 1,400 MW. It is estimated to cost €1.5-2 billion. The interconnector is planned installed between a new substation at Ertsmyra in Norway to Diele or Brunsbüttel substation in Germany. The new connection would be operational by 2018.
The Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett SF owns the project, whilst, the feasibility study was carried out together with the German transmission system operator TenneT TSO (former E.ON Netz). A cable between Norway and Germany is listed in the EU's new priorities for 2020 and beyond.
