Nordic European Airlines - Company History

Company History

Nordic European Airlines began its life in 1991 as Nordic East Airways using Douglas DC-9-21 aircraft on charters to the Mediterranean region. In 1992 the airline received two MD-80s. Because they needed an aircraft with a longer range than the MD-80s, the airline acquired Boeing 737-300 aircraft and the DC-9s and MD-80s were returned to the leasing companies while additionally a 737-400 was acquired.

In 1995 Nordic East acquired two Lockheed L-1011s from Cathay Pacific and with those, and a third aircraft added later, the charter work was expanded. Business comprised sub-charter duties for other carriers like the German LTU.

The airline changed its name to Nordic European Airlines - NEA at the end of 1996, but by the next year the airline was in financial difficulties and operations were suspended March 1998, with the international business of the airline in receivership.

Famous quotes containing the words company and/or history:

Life is very narrow. Bring any club or company of intelligent men together again after ten years, and if the presence of some penetrating and calming genius could dispose them to frankness, what a confession of insanities would come up!
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

It’s nice to be a part of history but people should get it right. I may not be perfect, but I’m bloody close.
    John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten)
