Noel-Baker Community School - New Building Construction

New Building Construction

A new construction is currently being built to replace the current school. The site for this new school will be placed on the current playing fields. The current building, which is now exceeding 50 years old, will be demolished. The new Noel Baker construction will be prepared for the beginning of the school year in September 2012 at a cost of £34 million. The 1150 pupils of Noel Baker will be combined with 90 pupils from St.Martin's special school - a school which operates to educate special needs students.

The construction of the new Noel-Baker will make it the most expensive new-build school in the area in comparison to Merrill Collage's construction which cost £15 million and Derby Moor whose refurbishment cost £19 million.

Famous quotes containing the words building and/or construction:

The rage for road building is beneficent for America, where vast distance is so main a consideration in our domestic politics and trade, inasmuch as the great political promise of the invention is to hold the Union staunch, whose days already seem numbered by the mere inconvenience of transporting representatives, judges and officers across such tedious distances of land and water.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

There is, I think, no point in the philosophy of progressive education which is sounder than its emphasis upon the importance of the participation of the learner in the formation of the purposes which direct his activities in the learning process, just as there is no defect in traditional education greater than its failure to secure the active cooperation of the pupil in construction of the purposes involved in his studying.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)
