  • A The number of player's appearances and goals do not include the statistics from unofficial matches (e.g. exhibition games). During its Yugoslav period (1960–1991) Maribor has competed only in various domestic competitions (e.g. Yugoslav First League, Yugoslav Second League, Yugoslav Third League, Slovenian Republic League, Yugoslav Cup and Slovenian Republic Football Cup). Since the independence of Slovenia in 1991 the club competes in domestic (e.g. Slovenian PrvaLiga, Slovenian Cup and Slovenian Supercup) and has made official appearances in various international competitions (e.g. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Intertoto Cup).
  • B Enes Mešanović represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2001 Merdeka Tournament. The matches on the tournament are not FIFA recognised.
  • C Milko Gjurovski represented Macedonia at full international level while a Maribor player during the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons. In the 1980s he represented Yugoslavia.
  • D In 2005, during his brief stay at the club, Rocky Siberie was eligible to play for the Netherlands Antilles, an autonomous Caribbean country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and has made appearances for their national team between 2004 and 2008. Since the dissolution of the country in 2010, he has represented Curaçao.
  • E Rene Krhin was a member of Maribor's youth academy between 1999 and 2007, but never made an official appearance for the club's senior team, having been signed by Inter at the age of 16. He made his first appearance for Slovenia at the age of 19, becoming one of Slovenia's youngest debutants.
  • F Zlatko Zahovič began his football career in Maribor's youth academy, but never made an official appearance for the club's senior team. He is regarded as one of the greatest Slovenian footballers and holds the records for most appearances and most goals for the country's national team. He has been Maribor's director of football since 2007.
