Nitro High School Marching Band (60 Members) is one of the eight public high schools in Kanawha County that compete in the Daily Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival. Their band director, Richard Brooks, was voted the Best Band Director of 2010, 2011, 2012, and has been nominated and is in the running for 2013. They have won the Festival Grand Championship three times (1976, 2001, and 2003) and have had three girls named Miss Kanawha Majorette (Frances Snyder in 1956, and Judy Boggess in 1971.
