Nimbus Cloud

A nimbus cloud is a cloud that produces precipitation. Usually the precipitation reaches the ground as rain, hail, snow, or sleet. Falling precipitation may evaporate as virga.

Since nimbus clouds are dense with water, they appear darker than other clouds. Additionally, nimbus clouds can be characterized by their great height. Nimbus clouds are formed at low altitudes and are typically spread uniformly across the sky.

    On a cloud I saw a child,
    And he laughing said to me,

    “Pipe a song about a Lamb”;
    So I piped with merry chear.
    “Piper pipe that song again”—
    So I piped, he wept to hear.

    “Drop thy pipe thy happy pipe
    Sing thy songs of happy chear”;
    So I sung the same again
    While he wept with joy to hear.
