The Strategic Health Authority is responsible for ensuring that the circa £10 billion pounds spent on health and health care across the region delivers better services for patients and value for money for the people living in the West Midlands.
The areas encompassed by the SHA are: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Herefordshire, Sandwell, Shropshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Wrekin, Walsall, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire.
There are approximately 126,000 staff employed by the NHS in the West Midlands.

Famous quotes containing the words general and/or information:
“That sort of half sigh, which, accompanied by two or three slight nods of the head, is pitys small change in general society.”
—Charles Dickens (18121870)
“The information links are like nerves that pervade and help to animate the human organism. The sensors and monitors are analogous to the human senses that put us in touch with the world. Data bases correspond to memory; the information processors perform the function of human reasoning and comprehension. Once the postmodern infrastructure is reasonably integrated, it will greatly exceed human intelligence in reach, acuity, capacity, and precision.”
—Albert Borgman, U.S. educator, author. Crossing the Postmodern Divide, ch. 4, University of Chicago Press (1992)
