International Career
Vu Phong was called up for the U-23 team in 2005. In 2007, he became famous for his performances in 2008 Summer Olympics men's qualification and 2007 AFC Asian Cup. On July 6, 2008, He scored his first international goal against U-23 China in a friendly match. On December 8, 2008, Phong scored two goals against Malaysia in 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup. On December 24, 2008, he scored one goal against Thailand in the first leg final of the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup to help Vietnam win the title. On January 14, 2009, he scored one goal in a 3-1 win against Lebanon in 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification.
