Riverside Branch
A 10 km (6 mi) loop via Walker known as the Riverside Branch was added in 1879. Services were withdrawn from the branch on 23 July 1973. The Riverside Branch has now been converted into a footpath and cycle-path known as Hadrian's Way - it forms part of both the C2C cycle route (National Cycle Network route 72) and the Hadrian's Wall National Trail.

Famous quotes containing the words riverside and/or branch:
“Upset at the young wifes
first loss of virtue
in a riverside thicket,
a flock of birds
flies up,
mourning the loss
with their wings.”
—Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)
“She saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister calxes arch to meet the love embrace and the ecstatic shiver of the tree from root to tiniest branch creaming in every blossom and frothing with delight. So this was a marriage!”
—Zora Neale Hurston (18911960)
