New Hampshire Lottery

Begun in 1964, the New Hampshire Lottery (originally known as the New Hampshire Sweepstakes) is the oldest American mainland-based lottery. (The Puerto Rico Lottery has been in operation since 1934.) New Hampshire's games include Mega Millions, Powerball, Hot Lotto, and numerous scratch tickets.

New Hampshire is part of the Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which it joined in 1995. New Hampshire also is a member of the Tri-State Lottery, whose other members are Maine and Vermont. Established in 1985, the Tri-State Lottery was the nation's first multi-jurisdictional lottery. New Hampshire hosts these drawings. (Mega Millions draws are held in Georgia, while Powerball is drawn in Florida.)

All New Hampshire Lottery games require players to be at least 18 years old.

Famous quotes containing the words hampshire and/or lottery:

    Anything I can say about New Hampshire
    Will serve almost as well about Vermont,
    Excepting that they differ in their mountains.
    The Vermont mountains stretch extended straight;
    New Hampshire mountains curl up in a coil.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    The recent attempt to secure a charter from the State of North Dakota for a lottery company, the pending effort to obtain from the State of Louisiana a renewal of the charter of the Louisiana State Lottery, and the establishment of one or more lottery companies at Mexican towns near our border, have served the good purpose of calling public attention to an evil of vast proportions.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
