New Belfast Sinfonia - History

History

Founded in 2008, the New Belfast Sinfonia gave their 'exceptional' inaugural concert in July, giving the Irish Premiere of Miaskovsky's Cello Concerto, with young Belfast cello star David McCann. They are formed from a number of young talented musicians living, working and studying in the Belfast area.

The orchestra are the product of a 'New Belfast' emerging from the city's troubled past, in a time of cultural emancipation, and diversity. They perform three times a season, at Christmas, Easter and during the Summer period.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In front of these sinister facts, the first lesson of history is the good of evil. Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.
    William Faulkner (1897–1962)
