Neutron Cross Section - Parameters of Interest

Parameters of Interest

The neutron cross section, and therefore the probability of an interaction, depends on:

  • the target type (hydrogen, uranium…),
  • the type of nuclear reaction (scattering, fission…).
  • the incident particle energy, also called speed or temperature (thermal, fast…),

and, to a lesser extent, of:

  • its relative angle between the incident neutron and the target nuclide,
  • the target nuclide temperature.

Famous quotes containing the words parameters of, parameters and/or interest:

What our children have to fear is not the cars on the highways of tomorrow but our own pleasure in calculating the most elegant parameters of their deaths.

There is not a subject in which I take a deeper interest than I do in the development of Alaska, and I propose, if Congress will follow by recommendations, to do something in that territory that will make it move on.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
