As a result of representations made by Lord Avebury regarding the rights to British nationality of persons of Nepalese origin born in Hong Kong before the handover, on 22 November 2006 a meeting took place between representatives of the Nepalese and British Governments to discuss aspects of Nepalese nationality law.     Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it;
    But we hae meat, and we can eat, And sae the Lord be thanket.
    Robert Burns (1759–1796)

    Work—work—work,
    In the dull December light,
    And work—work—work,
    When the weather is warm and bright—
    While underneath the eaves
    The brooding swallows cling
    As if to show me their sunny backs
    And twit me with the spring.
    Thomas Hood (1799–1845)

    There is no such thing as a free lunch.
    —Anonymous.

    An axiom from economics popular in the 1960s, the words have no known source, though have been dated to the 1840s, when they were used in saloons where snacks were offered to customers. Ascribed to an Italian immigrant outside Grand Central Station, New York, in Alistair Cooke’s America (epilogue, 1973)

    A custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black, stinking fume thereof nearest resembling the horrible Stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless.
    James I of England, James VI of Scotland (1566–1625)

    Your mock saint who stands in a niche is not a woman if she have not suffered, still less a woman if she have not sinned. Fall at the feet of your idol as you wish, but drag her down to your level after that—the only level she should ever reach, that of your heart.
    Emmuska, Baroness Orczy (1865–1947)
