Nelson Section - Proposals

Proposals

Even before the Nelson Section opened, there were plans for a rail connection from Nelson to ports on the West Coast and from there to Canterbury to facilitate trade between the two regions. The Nelson Section was just the start of what was intended to become a main line connection from the region to the West Coast and beyond. There were various proposals for the route of the Nelson Section, as well as other proposals to connect Nelson by rail to various points on the South Island rail network, none of which came to fruition.

Famous quotes containing the word proposals:

One theme links together these new proposals for family policy—the idea that the family is exceedingly durable. Changes in structure and function and individual roles are not to be confused with the collapse of the family. Families remain more important in the lives of children than other institutions. Family ties are stronger and more vital than many of us imagine in the perennial atmosphere of crisis surrounding the subject.
    Joseph Featherstone (20th century)
