Nelson County High School (Kentucky)

Nelson County High School is a public high school located in Bardstown, Kentucky. Until 2012, it was the only high school in the Nelson County School District, and was by far the largest of the four high schools then located in Bardstown (one public and operated by the Bardstown city school district, one Roman Catholic, and one Protestant). In its final year as the county district's only high school, it had 1,435 students.

The school's attendance zone split with the 2012 opening of Thomas Nelson High School, also located in Bardstown. However, Nelson County High retained a significant majority of its former enrollment—the Kentucky High School Athletic Association now places Nelson County in Class 4A in football, while Thomas Nelson was placed in Class 2A. Although Thomas Nelson will eventually house all four high school grades, it is housing only 9th through 11th grades in its first year.

Famous quotes containing the words nelson, county, high and/or school:

Women’s battle for financial equality has barely been joined, much less won. Society still traditionally assigns to woman the role of money-handler rather than money-maker, and our assigned specialty is far more likely to be home economics than financial economics.
    —Paula Nelson (b. 1945)

Hold hard, my county darlings, for a hawk descends,
Golden Glamorgan straightens, to the falling birds.
Your sport is summer as the spring runs angrily.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these twenty years at least.
    Jane Austen (1775–1817)

School divides life into two segments, which are increasingly of comparable length. As much as anything else, schooling implies custodial care for persons who are declared undesirable elsewhere by the simple fact that a school has been built to serve them.
    Ivan Illich (b. 1926)
