Advocacy

Before and during his years as a State Assemblyman, Denis conducted a neighborhood legal clinic which provided advocacy, advice, and free legal services to the residents of East Harlem.

In 1995, as deputy director of Yucahu Inc., an East Harlem community group, Denis opposed the merger of Chemical Bank and Chase because of inadequate service to the community.

With over 800 vacant and abandoned buildings in his district, Denis advocated for economic development funds and construction financing, to rebuild the decaying infrastructure of East Harlem.
